One good sacrifice deserves another

So if you read my post on Sacrifice then you know that Sarah and I felt the call to make some drastic changes in our living arrangements in order to save enough money to pay for our adoption as soon as possible. Some of that is still taking place; we are selling our beautiful house, moving to Louisiana, but NOT to the 2 bedroom guest house behind my in-laws.

You see, my in-laws decided to see our sacrifice and raise us another…..offering instead to move themselves to the smaller house and give us their house for as long as we need it! Amazing huh? What a selfless act inspired by love.

After some early research about Louisiana adoption/home study laws, Sarah and I were really worried about passing our homestudy for 2 additional kids in the 2 bedroom guest house. At the same time, we really felt God was calling us to make this move. But, it looks like God’s plans were bigger than our plans and he has already started to make a way. Faith and Trust….something I suspect we will be learning a lot about over the coming months.

I am continually reminded that this whole thing is not about me/us, but about them(four2six)/Him. It is amazing to me that God moves in others, orchestrating selfless acts of love, in order to fulfill His plan through us.

So everyone give major LOVE to Grandmommy and Granddaddy as we couldn’t do this without them!

The chicken or the egg….

So what comes first, the chicken or the egg? That has been the question we have been struggling to answer this week. Let me try to explain.

If you want to adopt in Haiti (or I suppose in general for that matter) you either fall in love with a particular orphan/child that God puts in your path and you pursue them OR you pick a particular orphanage/adoption agency and pray that God’s perfect will leads you to your children that way.

Several of our friends adopting from Haiti were drawn to their children first and they subsequently started the adoption journey. In this case, the EGG came first!

For us, God turned our hearts to Haiti and planted in us the desire to adopt children from there but we have not been introduced to our children yet. So we have to wade through all the orphanages and somehow determine which one is going to be the place that introduces us to our children. For us, it looks like the CHICKEN comes first!

Honestly, it is hard. Very hard. I am practically paralyzed by the enormity of this decision. It just seems like it would be easier if we “knew” which orphanage our children lived in.

We are learning a LOT about faith and trust in our Lord this week. We are choosing to trust that His will is perfect and that He will lead us to the orphanage (chicken) that He will use to ultimately introduce us to our kids (eggs).

So now you know the big news of adoption, ready for some more?

Well, in order to save enough money as fast as possible to bring our Haitian kids home, we have decided to sell our house here in Texas and move back in with my in-laws in Louisiana…..I’m sorry….I need a moment…. Ok, in fairness it is a nice two bedroom one bath guest home BEHIND my in-laws. But, none the less, I should probably go see a doctor and have my head examined.

Problem is, it isn’t a head issue, it is a heart issue. And my heart is telling me to sacrifice it all, what the world calls riches, and do everything in my power to bring my Haitian kids home as soon as possible. For some people raising money is the only option and for those I feel our calling is to help. But for us, if we are just willing to check our pride at the doorstep of our new two bedroom house, we will be able to save enough money to pay for our kids in about a year.

Once the adoptions are paid for and we are debt free, we will then start the process of finding a new home, with more than two bedrooms, to really become HOME, as our family goes from “four 2 six”.

By the way…..our current plan is for that HOME to be back in TEXAS!!!!!! Everyone together now…..”The Stars at night, are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas….” We will miss you!

Ummmm……what are we talkin about?

…….well, here goes nothing. I have only recently started reading blogs and always thought they were great for my artsy (you know who you are) and/or single friends. But the idea of a married father of two/corporate sales guy having a blog just never made since to me. MySpace/Facebook…you got a better chance of finding me at a Wayne Newton fan appreciation luncheon. Since I graduated college and went into the corporate world, my wit and comedic humor have followed the direct inverse path of my waistline. My writing skills are relegated to emails typed on a 1 inch keyboard (thank you Blackberry) and generally contain the words fiber optic dispersion loss, resource arbitration processors and there effect on packet bandwidth, and detailed descriptions of how flux capacitors work.

Well, guess what, things change as is evident by all the changes in my life happening right now. And regardless of my writing skills, a blog just seems like a fitting place to share with others all the amazing things that God is doing in the life of my family. Besides, Sarah (my forever love) will probably end up doing must of the blogging.

As a result of all of this change, I (meaning we, meaning Sarah and I) have decided to enter the blog world starting today! Epic I know, life changing for you….I doubt it. Life changing for us, possibly.

So here is the plan in a nutshell…………(those dots are added for effect, basically reading silence, and I do that a lot when I type)…..this blog is going to serve as a chronicle for those interested in some major happenings in the Hyatt household. It will be less about my thoughts on the presidential race, global warming, and whether or not old people should be allowed to drive. It will be more about adoption, Haiti, missions, giving, sacrifice, and how all those things are impacting each step my family is about to make.

So here is the announcement, my beautiful bride and family of 2, have decided to adopt (2)! I can’t begin to express the great joy, great fear, and great peace that have come with making this decision. I will spend more time over the coming weeks detailing this new calling we have decided to accept, the road God has taken us down to get here, but for now, let this serve as our proclamation to the world that the Hyatt family will some day soon grow from “four 2 six”! Did you catch the blog title reference there…..don’t miss it otherwise you will forever be wondering what the heck “four 2 six” means.

More information will be forthcoming, but for now, know we need your prayers, prayers, prayers! Pray that Sarah and I will trust God in this calling. Pray that we will allow Him to guide our steps. Pray for our kids, the ones already with us and the ones that God is already preparing to unite us with.
