Art * Music * Justice

Sarah and I had the chance to go see the Art*Music*Justice (AMJ) Tour during it’s stop in Monroe, LA last night.  What?  I know, right?  Some crafty rednecks somehow managed to convince them to stop in Funroe.

Well, without hesitation, I will tell you it was one of the best concerts (Christian or otherwise) that I have ever been to.  One of my all time favorite artist, Derek Webb, was there doing his thing along with an awesome group that included Sara Groves, Charlie Peacock, Sandra McCracken, and Brandon Heath.  It was unlike any “concert” I have ever been to.  It was more like a gathering of passionate Christian’s sharing about the heart of our God…the poor, the hurting, the enslaved, the needy.  They literally shared the stage, singing/playing backup for one another, while each spoke about how God is changing them, aligning their hearts and talents to do their part to make a difference.  Sarah and I both left there challenged, broken, inspired, and encouraged.

The main reason I am putting this on our blog is because they are going to be in Texas tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday.  Being that a lot of people reading our blog are probably within and short drive of one of their locations, I wanted to encourage you to go.  If you have plans, change them.  If you don’t have a babysitter, take them.  If you are tired, drink a redbull.  If you are lazy, get over it……these are desperate times and these people, this concert, will challenge you to do something about it.

San Antonio, TX – University United Methodist – Tonight – Oct. 24th @7:00PM

Carrollton, TX – Bent Tree Church – Saturday – Oct. 25th @7:00PM **Calling all Diakonos, this is right next to Prestonwood…you have no excuse!

Houston (Spring), TX – The Woodlands United Methodist – Sunday – Oct. 26th @7:00PM

If you don’t like it, I will reimburse your ticket cost…minus a small service charge.  Seriously, it’s worth your time and worth you shifting your schedule around.

We are no longer home owners!

The house is sold, officially closed today and transferred ownership at 1:30pm!  Thanks everyone for your prayers; really, thank you!  It was very hard to clean our stuff out this past weekend, turn the lights out, and close the door for the last time.  Sarah and I had a time of reflection on our past and rejoicing about our future.

I can’t thank the guys that came and helped me move enough.  The Texas crew…Vince, Joey, Steve, Scott, Eric…and the LA crew…Troy, Philip, Mark, Christian, G-Dad, Dad….seriously, the logistics and stress have been a burden on me but your hands, feet, and backs took it all away.

Sarah somehow managed to pack up everything over a three day weekend….it involved no sleep and lots of Ibuprofen.  She is amazing.  Thanks to G-Mom for helping with that labor intensive work……seriously, I would rather get stuck in an elevator with the Delilah show on continuous loop than have to box up crap for a move.  The loading and unloading I don’t mind so much.  The packing and unpacking…wouldn’t get done if it were up to me.

Not exactly the market I would recommend selling in, unless you feel God requires it of you….if you do then give this guy a call….Jeff C. Jacobs has done it again!

Bullet Updates

– Praise the Lord….we close on our house this Friday and move the rest of our stuff into storage on Saturday/Sunday.  The economy and housing market may be really bad but our God is really good.

– We have our completed adoption homestudy in hand….dropped off tonight as a matter of fact.  It will soon be joining the rest of our documents at the translator as well as the state office for authentication.  We are hoping that within a few weeks everything will be ready to send to the Haitian Consulate.

– Ankle is still not right, hurts constantly…not bad…but just enough to remind me that I am still a gimp.

– I had the opportunity to speak in front of 50+ men at Cedar Crest Baptist Church….topics covered: Haiti, poverty, short term mission trips, and rich christians in the age of hunger.  It felt good speaking about something God has been squeezing Sarah and me about.

– Life is unbelievably crazy right now….I am having a hard time keeping up.

– Claire is loving kindergarten.  As always, the teachers love her and everyone wants to be her friend.

– We are planning a return to Haiti for November in order to visit several orphanages to hopefully determine which one we will adopt from.  Trip planning is proving difficult considering the condition of the country after the recent hurricanes.  Priority one….pray for the people of Haiti during this great time of need.  Please pray that we don’t lose sight of that.  Priority two….pray that things will pull together and we will get to go.  Please pray for wisdom and discernment as we try to find the orphange that God wants to use to introduce us to our kids.  Please pray for our kids….that they will be fed, nurtured, and cared for until we can be connected with them.

– Isabella’s purpose in life is to make our sides hurt with laughter or our heads hurt with frustration…sometimes at the same time.
