Next Step

Looks like USCIS has finally put forth some guidelines for all of us adoptive parents that recently brought children home from Haiti under Humanitarian Parole.  The short of it appears that we pursue a domestic adoption in our state of residence, then file for Petition of Alien Relative after two years.

Being that this will all be outside the “norm”, it should be an interesting journey through the caverns of the legal system, a journey for which I am definitely not prepared, but absolutely blessed to get the chance to walk….because it means that my children are home!  So while I will probably get discouraged from time to time, might even complain, just ignore me….because I definately know it is all worth while.

So does anyone reading this know a good (insert honest and talented) adoption lawyer in the north Louisiana area?  Actually, I am not even sure they have to be in north Louisiana, as long as they are licensed to do adoption cases in Louisiana and are willing to help us get through all this.  And come to think of it, that honest part is probably less of a requirement than the talented part…we are talking about lawyers right?

Oh and by the way…the girls are doing great.

Amelia has to be the greatest 6 month old baby on the face of the earth….seriously.  She NEVER cries, ALWAYS smiles, and takes several naps a day in addition to sleeping from 8:30pm to 8:30am.  Ok, the only thing that would make her a better baby would be if she would actually change her own diaper and fix her own bottles.  Just those two things.

Naomi is adjusting very good as well.  She LOVES her Momma, big sister Claire, and little sister Amelia; she tolerates her Daddy/Poppa and bigger sister Bella.  Actually her and Bella are little partners in crime, either up to no good and perfectly aligned or playing nicely and misaligned.

I realize I owe you all some updates and pictures.  I will get those up soon.

Let me know about that adoption lawyer if you have any connections.

Here we are

It has been impossible to try and update our blog with everything moving so fast….follow my twitter updates as that has proven to be the easiest way to keep everyone up to speed.  Well actually, so much GOD stuff has happened, it is really impossible for me to remain up to speed.

We are at a hotel in Orlando sleeping.  We are ALL so tired.  Just sit and think for a moment what Naomi’s life might have been like for the past two weeks….heck, even the last 48 hours for her could stress a grown man into going postal.

Anyway, she basically zoned out in her car seat before we were even out of the airport.  She fell asleep in a matter of minutes.

I got about an hour nap….still feel like I have been hit by a train but my stress level has dropped 1,000,000,000% .

The family that lived in Haiti and ran Naomi’s orphanage is here in Orlando, so we are going to take her over to visit them for a few minutes tonight.

We haven’t eaten yet today, so that will hopefully appear on the agenda at some point.

I am praying that I can remember at least half of the events that have taken place over the past 2 weeks….God showed up and did some AMAZING things that nobody can claim.  I told Sarah, if we don’t come out the other side of this with faith that can move mountains, we have missed it.  I’m telling you, our God is sovereign.

Update = This may be hard to understand

This is gonna be quick….

Naomi is NOT on the plane, the kids are coming to Orlando.  I don’t understand.  But that doesn’t really matter.

I will not rest until she is home.  But that doesn’t really matter.

Now to make this a little more complex….we have been keeping you in the dark for the past day on some other major happenings. It has all happened so fast and we will explain when we can.

We have another daughter that did make it on the plane.  Her name is Amalia (pronounced: Amelia).  She is a beautiful 5 month old Haitian girl.

We will be jumping on a private plane in the next hour to go pick Amalia up in Orlando tonight.  We plan on staying in Orlando in anticipation that Naomi will be joining us in the next couple days.

The one I have been loving for 2 years, my 3 year old sweet Naomie, was left in Haiti.  The one I have loved for 2 days, my 5 month old sweet Amalia, will soon be in Orlando.

I do not understand.  But that doesn’t really matter.  There is someone that DOES understand.  That is what matters.

four2six…..four2six….four2six….it is gonna happen.  Please pray for us all.

Update = Another quake

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on January 20, 2010 by J-HY

Got word this morning of another 6.1 earthquake in Haiti.  Also heard from my friend Troy Livesay (who is in Haiti) that all the Maranatha children and Heartline caretakers are safe.

I know you are hearing that children are beginning to come home. PRAISE GOD.  We are confident that Naomie will be coming home soon as well.  DON’T STOP PRAYING.  But right now we know she is safe, along with the rest of the children at our orphanage, so we have all agreed to let children in more dire situations board the planes before our kids.

Because of our groups attempt to live Christlike through all this, maybe Naomie will one day get to tell her story on this webpage: www.iamsecond.com.
